We all have those months, where everything seems to pile on top of itself and then we can’t make heads from tails. I know this feeling well. Many of the artists and friends I have gotten to know over the past 4 years know this feeling well too! How do we see ourselves out of it?
Here are 5 things I do to try to get focused and make sense of a massive to-list.
GET A MONTH VIEW CALENDAR. Write down everything you have to do and when it is done so you can see it all in one place.
SCRATCH THINGS OFF THE LIST. Can anything go? What isn’t worth your time or is weighing you down? Can you get rid of it?
PHONE A FRIEND! Sometimes getting just a little bit of help goes along way. Maybe it’s hiring a housecleaner. Maybe it is asking your friend or sibling to help package up some art or get things in order for your next event. Either way, a little help can go along way!
DO ONE THING AT A TIME. Sometime early on in high school, when I used to get overwhelmed by papers due or projects to complete I used to say this mantra of sorts: “It all gets done and only by doing one thing at a time.” It gets done or it doesn’t but stressing about it doesn’t actually help me, so I’ve tried to learn ways to minimize the stress so that i can still be productive.
REST. This can feel majorly counterproductive, but resting, truly turning your brain off for a period of time, usually restores energy to a new level so that you can be more productive with the time you have.
