It’s been a hard week. It feels like it’s been four weeks in one. As I sift through emails and take phone calls and make Zoom meetings and learn to conduct my classes online, I have become very aware of the things that provide a small sense of relief. I made a short list for you.
The New York Times Cooking, Instagram and email newsletters – written by Sam Sifton. I don’t care much for emails (why I try desperately not to send too many!) but once in a while there are some emails that just feel awesome. I have found myself looking forward to Sam’s emails daily. They are down to earth while also being inspiring.
Bird Watching – John got me an online course on bird songs this past Friday because he had remembered me talking about wanting to learn more of the birds on my walks and in our backyard. I have spent this first 20 minutes of the past three days sitting and listening.
Daily “Happy Hour” with family. I don’t think I have ever been this deliberate about being in touch, but seeing my parents daily has been such a gift. We do it on FaceTime because we all have iPhones but you can use any video call from Zoom to Google Meet to WhatsApp and House Party.
Derry Girls on Netflix – Netflix Original of teenage girls in Derry, Ireland during the political conflict in Northern Ireland in the 90’s.
I hope you find small pieces of beauty in your days. If you have found something particularly meaningful or fun, please drop it in the comments below. I’d love to hear. Or feel free to email me: sarah@atwaterdesigns.com.
